KUANTAN: Ten secondary schools, in collaboration with the Kuantan District Education Office and BASF Petronas Chemicals Sdn Bhd, took part in a drama competition recently that presented the meaning of 1Malaysia.
Having seen a good response to the event over the past three years, the organisers took this year’s competition to a bigger venue - the RTM Auditorium.
BASF Petronas human resources management director Halid Abdul Hamid said: “By supporting the education system through interactive programme such as the English drama, the community and the company can strike a win-win situation.”
“By educating the young, we are creating a well-informed generation that will contribute to the meaningful development of society,” he added.
The 10 schools, each represented by 15 students, were SM Sains Sultan Ahmad Shah, SM Sultan Abu Bakar, SM Teluk Chempedak, SBP Integrasi Kuantan, SM Tanah Putih, SM Tengku Afzan, SM Air Putih, Maahad Tahfiz Pahang, SM Saint Thomas and SM (P) Methodist.
Kuantan district education officer Narimah Abd Malek hoped the competition would encourage the spirit of muhibbah and teamwork.
“Dramas like these need good teamwork. It gives students a chance to express themselves freely and communicate with the public,” she said.
SM Saint Thomas took first place while SMK Sultan Abu Bakar and SM Sains Sultan Ahmad Shah secured the second and third spots respectively.
